Runes are a type of divination tool that consists of small, polished stones or crystals with symbols etched or painted on them. These symbols are typically derived from the ancient runic alphabets used by various Germanic peoples in the past.

In using Runes, a person will typically draw a small handful of Runes from a bag or pouch and lay them out in a pattern, such as a three-rune spread or a larger Celtic Cross spread. The symbols on the Runes are then interpreted based on their position and the meanings attributed to them, in order to gain insight into a particular question or situation.

Some people believe that crystals can enhance the divinatory power of the Runes, and therefore choose to use particular crystals as their rune sets over say, wood. For example, Amethyst might be chosen for its calming and intuitive qualities.
